Trent Richardson to the Colts

First off this is obviously a move to package our (the Browns) 1st pick with the Colts 1st rounder to move up for Bridgewater or Hundley with the Browns probably #2 pick behind the Jaguars. However the only team worse than the Browns the Jaguars also need a QB so there is no way to say how this trade worked out until hopefully the Browns use their stock load of picks to completely overhaul the offense. However they better not trade WR Josh Gordon.

UCLA 41, Nebraska 21: FINAL

A tough nonconference affair took place in Lincoln between the Bruins and the Cornhuskers. After playing a dreadful first half, the Bruins absolutely dominated Nebraska. UCLA scored 38 unanswered points in order to win the contest.

The box score can be found here.

FINAL: UCLA 41, Nebraska 21

The Bruins scored 38 unanswered points en route to a big victory on the road.

It's a disappointing effort for Nebraska. After a very good first half, Bo Pelini's team laid a proverbial egg in the second half.

3:25 PM ET

Controversial pundit Skip Bayless shares his thoughts on the game...

3:25 PM ET
Field Goal!

UCLA 41, Nebraska 21

The Bruins tack on three more points. Unless Nebraska can score three touchdowns in one minute and 57 seconds, the Bruins will head home with an impressive victory.

3:23 PM ET
In the battle between the Pac-12 and the B1G, it looks like Round 1 went to Larry Scott's conference.

Who do you guys think will win in the later games?

Washington or Illinois?

Arizona State or Wisconsin?

Cal or Ohio State?

3:17 PM ET
The record crowd in Lincoln is starting to file out of Memorial Stadium.

3:12 PM ET
You gotta wonder how hot the seat is getting for Bo Pelini. Defensive coordinator John Papuchis has not been a fan favorite in Lincoln.

Could he be the sacrificial lamb?

3:06 PM ET

QB Taylor Martinez
Regardless of the outcome, it's quite clear that Taylor Martinez has improved considerably as a passer.

3:04 PM ET
Nebraska has won 14 straight nonconference games at home. The Cornhuskers have also gone 17-1 under Pelini in these types of contests.

2:58 PM ET
Anthony Barr splits two defenders and causes Ameer Abdullah to fumble. The Bruins recovered the football.

Nebraska is not in a good spot right now...

2:53 PM ET

The passing of Nick Pasquale is the obvious motivation in this game for the Bruins.

2:52 PM ET

ESPN commentator Rece Davis gives high praise to UCLA's signal-caller...

2:51 PM ET
The third quarter mercifully ends for the Cornhuskers.

If they are to get back in the game, Martinez needs to run the football. He's too talented with his legs to not utilize that element of his game.

2:48 PM ET
Touchdown!

UCLA 38, Nebraska 21

F-back Nate Iese catches a three-yard pass off of play action, and the rout is on. The Bruins have scored touchdowns on all four possessions in the second half.

After being down 21-3, the Bruins have scored 35 unanswered points.

Wow.

2:45 PM ET
Bo Pelini shows some backbone and goes for a fake punt in Nebraska territory.

For some inexplicable reason, an offensive lineman was the one to run the football. The Cornhuskers were just short, and UCLA takes over in Nebraska territory.

2:40 PM ET
QB Brett Hundley
Bruce Thorson-USA TODAY Sports
Touchdown!

UCLA 31, Nebraska 21

Fullback Phillip Ruhl hauls in a 12-yard pass for a touchdown, and the Bruins are on an absolute roll right now.

UCLA has scored 28 unanswered points. Nebraska looks like it forgot that there was a second half.

2:38 PM ET
Nebraska's defense gets a much needed stop on third down...until the Cornhuskers commit a roughing-the-passer penalty.

It's been a tale of two halves for these teams so far.

2:34 PM ET
Nebraska's offense is abysmal right now.

2:30 PM ET
Running back Jordon James breaking a tackle

Touchdown!

UCLA 24, Nebraska 21

On a beautiful throw by Brett Hundley, the Bruins take the lead. Receiver Shaq Evans was able to evade the defender and catch the 28-yard pass for the score.

UCLA has now scored 18 unanswered points.

It's time for "T-Magic" to get some production on offense for the Cornhuskers.

2:28 PM ET

ESPN LA sportswriter Arash Markazi mentions the obvious...

2:26 PM ET
Nebraska's offense is stagnant right now. The Bruins just forced a three-and-out and will take over on offense.

One would think that Nebraska would look to integrate Martinez more in the run game.

2:21 PM ET
Touchdown!

Nebraska 21, UCLA 17

Jordon James caps off a strong drive with a three-yard touchdown. UCLA's offensive line has also done a nice job giving Hundley time to throw the football.

For the day, James has 15 carries for 70 yards.

Momentum has clearly shifted right now.

2:15 PM ET
James must've heard me call him out, considering that he just rushed for a 38-yard gain.

2:13 PM ET
The Bruins now take over on offense, looking to cut into Nebraska's 11-point lead.

It'll be interesting to see who starts at running back for the Bruins. Jordon James did not look good in the first half. In limited time, Paul Perkins looked good.

2:10 PM ET
Anthony Barr has been flying around the field on this opening drive.

No. 4 Ohio State prepares stiff test for Cal QB

No. 4 Ohio State prepares stiff test for Cal QB

Associated Press | September 13, 2013
BERKELEY, Calif. -- Jared Goff's college career has gotten off to quite the prolific start.

Goff became the first true freshman quarterback ever to start the season opener at California and responded by becoming the second player in Golden Bears history with back-to-back 400-yard passing games.

Goff will get his toughest test yet on Saturday when Cal (1-1) hosts a fourth-ranked Ohio State (2-0) team that has won 14 straight games.

Goff leads the nation in passing with 935 yards and has the most yards passing in his first two games since the start of the BCS era in 1998. Goff is more than 100 yards ahead of the next player on the list, North Carolina State's Philip Rivers with 798 yards in 2000, according to STATS LLC.

"It's cool, but I can't think about stats," Goff said. "I'm really not concerned about that. All we're worried about is Ohio State."

The Buckeyes are plenty concerned about Goff, who followed up his 450-yard passing debut in a loss against Northwestern with 485 yards last week in a win over Portland State.

Ohio State hasn't faced anything like first-year coach Sonny Dykes' Bear Raid offense that has thrown 115 passes the first two weeks. The Buckeyes have allowed 401 yards passing on 73 attempts in wins this season over Buffalo and San Diego State. Only Texas' Colt McCoy and Purdue's Drew Brees have thrown for more than 400 yards in a game against Ohio State in the BCS era.

"It's impressive to come in and step into this kind of offense," Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said. "He's a very impressive guy."

Here are five things to watch when the Buckeyes visit the Bears:

MILLER'S KNEE: Quarterback Braxton Miller sprained his left knee on the seventh play of Ohio State's first series last week and did not return. Miller has been limited in practice all week but is expected to play Saturday. Miller led the way last year against the Bears when he threw for 249 yards and four TDs and added a 55-yard touchdown run in a 35-28 victory. "There are not a lot of guys in college football that possess the skill set he possesses and have the strength, size and speed that he has," Dykes said.

DEPLETED DEFENSE: When the Bears opened camp this summer, they were counting on defensive linemen Chris McCain, Brennan Scarlett and Mustafa Jalil, linebacker Nick Forbes and safety Avery Sebastian to spearhead the unit. Injuries have sidelined those leaders for much, if not all, of the season so far and only Forbes is a possibility to play this week. Those absences are a big reason why Cal has allowed more than 500 yards in each of the first two games. "When you look out there and you haven't played with really any of those guys, it's a little scary," Dykes said. "Those are guys who are battle-tested."

BIG-PLAY BIGELOW: Brendan Bigelow provided the highlights for Cal in last year's meeting with touchdown runs of 81 and 59 yards among his four carries on the day. Bigelow hasn't had any other performances close to that, with just 392 yards rushing and one touchdown on the ground in 10 games since that highlight-reel performance. Bigelow is averaging 2.7 yards per carry on his last 30 runs this season. "Based on the way we've run the ball, I wouldn't think they'd be too concerned," Dykes said.

RARE ROAD TRIP: The Buckeyes will play just their eighth nonconference road game in the past 14 seasons when they visit Memorial Stadium. They lost three of those previous seven trips to UCLA in 2001, Southern California in 2008 and Miami two years ago. The Buckeyes are just 9-6 in their last 15 road openers.

HIGH PROFILE GAME: This is the highest-profile game yet for Dykes, who is trying to get Cal back to the upper echelon of the Pac-12 after a 3-9 season in 2012 under fired coach Jeff Tedford. A strong performance on Saturday could help the cause because about 150 recruits are expected to be on campus for the game, including five on their official visits. Cal had just seven recruits at last week's win over Portland State.

               Costa Rica vs. USA

Date, Time, Live Stream, TV Info and Preview

The United States will look to distance themselves from second-place Costa Rica on Friday night in an effort to inch one step closer to securing a berth at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The Americans picked up huge victories over Jamaica, Panama and Honduras in June to move atop the CONCACAF fourth-round table, but with four matches still to play, the Stars and Stripes must keep their collective eye on the prize. The top three finishers in the group will qualify for next summer's World Cup in Brazil, while the fourth-place finisher will enter a playoff against New Zealand. Here we'll get you set for Friday's pivotal 2014 World Cup qualifying showdown in San Jose.

When: Friday, September 6 at 10 p.m. ET (8 p.m. local time)
Where: Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica, San Jose
Watch: beIN Sport
Live Stream: beIN Sport Play
Top Storyline:
Can the U.S. Earn a Result in Hostile Territory?

In anticipation of a hostile environment in San Jose on Friday, extra security has been brought in to help squash any fan incidents before, during or after the match, according to ESPNFC.com. Consequently, earning a positive result will be that much more of a challenge for Jurgen Klinsmann's crew. In addition to having the advantage of playing in front of their passionate supporters, the Central Americans are a talented bunch with a number of dangerous attacking players, including Bryan Ruiz and Celso Borges.  And as pointed out by Goal.com's Eric Gomez on Twitter, Los Ticos will be out to avenge their bitter loss to the U.S. last March in blizzard conditions outside of Denver—not to mention their recent Gold Cup defeat to the U.S. two months ago.  Clint Dempsey scored the lone goal in that memorable match in the Rocky Mountains to help the Americans pick up three critical points for qualification. The dynamic Dempsey will be a key player again, and he will be teamed up with USMNT legend Landon Donovan, according to MLS.com. While Dempsey and Jozy Altidore have been huge for Team USA at times during qualification, Donovan put on a show at the CONCACAF Gold Cup in July, scoring goals and assisting several others en route to leading the Americans to their fifth regional championship.  It will be interesting to see if the trio of stars can power the U.S. behind enemy lines on Friday. While a win would be colossal, a one-point draw would no doubt put a smile on Klinsmann's face.  Prediction Which side will continue its winning ways on Friday? Costa Rica United States Neither, it'll be a draw Submit Vote vote to see results After a stinging opening loss to Honduras, the U.S. rebounded beautifully by beating Costa Rica, earning a hard-fought draw in Mexico, and winning three straight qualifying matches in the span of 11 days in June to elevate itself to the very top of the group table. But Costa Rica has looked every bit as strong since that March matchup in Denver. The Central American squad has yet to lose a qualifying match since, beating Jamaica, Honduras and Panama while also earning an impressive draw in Mexico. With little separating the two sides in the table and on the pitch, expect a draw on Friday night. Both squads have been in top qualifying form over the past few months, and neither will want to concede ground to third-place Mexico.

PREDICTION:
Costa Rica 1, United States 1

EPL- MAN CITY-THIS WEEKS LIST - headers

                      THE LIST
                        headers

Manchester City FC

This week’s List takes a look at which City players have scored the most headers in the Premier League since the start of the 2008/09 season...

Head boys:

6 – Edin Dzeko

Top of the pile is one Dzeko, with six of his 31 league goals being headers. The Bosnian Diamond has headed a few important goals for the Blues, but none more vital than his equaliser against QPR in May 2012!

Edin Dzeko celebrates

4 – Joleon Lescott, Vincent Kompany

A centre-back pairing that can prove useful in both boxes, Lescott and Kompany have both grabbed four goals with their heads. The skipper’s head proved vital in the destination of the title in 2012 – it was his towering jump from a corner which secured all three points for the Blues in the Manchester derby sending City top of the table with just two games to play.

Kompany

3 – Emmanuel Adebayor, Carlos Tevez

Four years at City saw Tevez shoot to the top of the list of City’s Premier League scorers, with 58. Only three of that impressive total were scored with his head, but the Argentinian’s relatively small stature may have left him more comfortable with the ball at his feet!  Adebayor took just four games in a City shirt to record two of his three headed goals, including a famous effort against his former club, Arsenal.

Garcias First Goal

2 – Javi Garcia, Alvaro Negredo, Micah Richards, Yaya Toure

Spanish striker Negredo has only been at the club for three Premier League games, but has already scored twice in a City shirt, both of them with his head! It’s likely he will be climbing a few places in this list before the season is out. Javi Garcia – who nodded home on his debut – Micah Richards and Yaya Toure have all found the back of the net twice with their heads for the Blues.

Obama: Syria red line is the world's not his

Tom Cohen, CNN

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Wednesday approved a resolution authorizing a U.S. military response to chemical weapons use by Syria, sending the measure to the full chamber for debate next week. The vote was 10 to 7.

[Original story published at 2:20 p.m. ET]

President Barack Obama said Wednesday the red line he spoke of last year regarding Syria's use of chemical weapons came from international treaties and past congressional action, rather than something he "made up," and he challenged the world to join him in enforcing bans on such armaments.

In direct language to reporters in Sweden, Obama laid out his rationale for wanting to attack Syria on the same day a Senate committee will vote on a proposed resolution authorizing limited U.S. military strikes.

He also insisted he had the authority to order attacks -- expected to be cruise missile strikes on Syrian military command targets -- even if Congress rejects his request for authorization.

America "recognizes that if the international community fails to maintain certain norms, standards, laws, governing how countries interact and how people are treated, that over time this world becomes less safe," Obama said. "It becomes more dangerous not only for those people who are subjected to these horrible crimes, but to all of humanity."

He cited World War II as an example, saying "the people of Europe are certainly familiar with what happens when the international community finds excuses not to act." At the same time, "as commander in chief, I always preserve the right and the responsibility to act on behalf of America's national security," Obama said.

Conservative critics have said Obama painted himself into a corner with his statement last year that Syria's use of chemical weapons was a red line that would change his approach to its civil war.

Obama: It is the world's red line

"A red line for us is we start seeing a whole bunch of chemical weapons moving around or being utilized," Obama said in August 2012. "That would change my calculus."

Now, critics on the right say, he must respond to an alleged chemical weapons attack outside Damascus by the Syrian regime that Secretary of State John Kerry said killed more than 1,400 people or lose credibility.

The administration and top congressional leaders attempted to blunt that criticism on Tuesday during debate on Capitol Hill. Even House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, the chamber's No. 2 Republican, said any president would have drawn that red line based on international norms.

Obama made that same argument on Wednesday, saying: "I didn't set a red line. The world set a red line."

"The world set a red line when governments representing 98 percent of the world's population said the use of chemical weapons are abhorrent and passed a treaty forbidding their use, even when countries are engaged in war," he said at a joint news conference with Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt on the first day of a four-day trip that includes the G-20 summit in Russia.

"Congress set a red line when it ratified that treaty," Obama continued. "Congress set a red line when it indicated that in a piece of legislation entitled the 'Syria Accountability Act' that some of the horrendous things that are happening on the ground there need to be answered for."

Sounding exasperated, Obama added: "That wasn't something I just kind of made up. I didn't pluck it out of thin air. There's a reason for it."

Obama prods international community to act

Asked about whether he was seeking to save face, Obama insisted that "my credibility is not on the line -- the international community's credibility is on the line."

He framed the question for the United Nations and the global community at large as: "Are we going to try to find a reason not to act? And if that's the case, then I think the (world) community should admit it."

Opposition by Russia, a Syrian ally, has scuttled U.S. and British efforts to get the U.N. Security Council to authorize a military response against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime.

U.N. inspectors returned from Syria last week from their mission to confirm if chemical weapons were used, but Secretary of State John Kerry said Wednesday it would take three weeks for samples collected to analyzed and results announced.

"I respect the U.N. process," Obama said while standing next to Reinfeldt, who opposes military intervention without U.N. approval.

"We agree that the international community cannot be silent," Obama added, saying also that the U.N. investigators had done "heroic work."

Noting the U.N. team's mandate was only to determine the use of chemical weapons, and not identify who used them, Obama repeated past statements that U.S. intelligence has confirmed chemical weapons use beyond any reasonable doubt and has further confirmed that al-Assad's regime "was the source."

"I do think that we have to act, because if we don't, we are effectively saying that even though we may condemn it and issue resolutions and so forth and so on, somebody who is not shamed by resolutions can continue to act with impunity," Obama said.

International norms then "begin to erode," he added, and "other despots and authoritarian regimes can start looking and say, 'that's something we can get away with.'"

He described the intended U.S. response as "limited in time and in scope, targeted at the specific task of degrading (al-Assad's) capabilities, and deterring the use of those weapons, again."

More than 100,000 killed in Syrian conflict

The United Nations has said more than 100,000 people -- including many civilians -- have been killed since the popular uprising spiraled into a civil war in 2011.

Later Wednesday, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee is scheduled to consider a revised resolution to set a 60-day deadline for use of force in Syria, with an option for an additional 30 days.

Veteran Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona told reporters before the committee met that he would propose an amendment adding language to say the U.S. military response was intended to "reverse Assad's battlefield momentum," a stronger objective than degrading the Syrian regime's military capabilities as Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel told the committee on Tuesday.

If Assad "remains in an advantageous position, he will never leave Syria," said McCain, who has been pushing for a more robust U.S. response. "He has to know that he is losing and that way you get a negotiated settlement for his departure."

Earlier, the ranking Republican on the Senate committee, Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee, said he was "99.99 percent" certain the revised authorization measure would win the panel's approval.

Corker said the Obama administration was involved in discussions that bring a "greatly improved product" before the committee for Wednesday's vote.

Foreign Relations Chairman Robert Menendez, a New Jersey Democrat, and Corker had negotiated a revised resolution authorizing military strikes on Tuesday night.

According to a copy of that text, provided to CNN by a legislative source, the measure puts a time limit on the authorization and makes clear there would be no U.S. boots on the ground.

Kerry, Hagel and Gen. Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, appeared before the Senate panel on Tuesday to press for approval of authorization.

Tough questioning by House panel

The same trio then faced questions on Wednesday before the House Foreign Affairs Committee, with Republican Chairman Ed Royce of California saying the administration's Syria policy had been adrift for two years.

At the same time, Royce acknowledged there were "no easy answers" on Syria, and attempting to deter chemical weapons use was worth considering despite public skepticism for U.S. military involvement.

Kerry said Obama sought authorization for a response to the use of banned weapons, not a full military intervention.

"We are not asking America to go to war," he said. "We all agree, there will be no American boots on the ground."

On Tuesday, the leaders of both parties in the House of Representatives emerged from a White House meeting to support Obama's call for American strikes.

House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, told reporters the use of poison gas was "a barbarous act" to which only the United States is capable of responding. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-California, added that Washington must respond to actions "outside the circle of civilized human behavior."

In a written statement later, Boehner said it is up to Obama "to make his case to the American people and their elected representatives" -- including securing support from individual members.

"All votes authorizing the use of military force are conscience votes for members, and passage will require direct, continuous engagement from the White House," the speaker said.

Most of the focus of administration lobbying has been on the House, which returns from its summer recess on Monday. Opposition by liberal Democrats and libertarian conservatives to U.S. military action, as well as the bitterly partisan political environment of the Republican-led chamber, make passage of Obama's authorization proposal uncertain.

In the Senate, a Democratic source familiar with Majority Leader Harry Reid's thinking told CNN that Reid is confident any authorization measure will pass his chamber. The source said it is likely 60 votes will be needed to overcome a filibuster, and Reid thinks the votes are there.
